In 2017, Wabash Valley Progressives decided we wanted to find a way to honor the Latino community. The first Festival Latino was held at the Vincennes Riverwalk in August with overwhelming support from our community. We invite you to enjoy traditional dance, food, music, and activities for children while expressing gratitude and support for the Latino community.

Wabash Valley Progressives aim to make the community a more welcoming and safer place for ALL people. In June, we celebrate Pride Month with a family-focused festival on the Vincennes Riverwalk. Join us in supporting and advocating for our LGBTQ+ friends. Wabash Valley Progressives also maintains a list of local LGBTQ+ Friendly Businesses

Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Native American Heritage Month

This year, Wabash Valley Progressives and Vincennes University are honoring Native American Heritage Month with a screening and discussion of the film Women of the White Buffalo, about issues facing indigenous people and a group of determined women bringing hope to their communities.  Join us on November 20, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern at the Shircliff Auditorium on the Vincennes University campus.  The event is free, and light refreshments will be served.

Earth Day

Green and Clean In Celebration of Earth Day Join us for a clean up and recycling effort April 23, 2022 9am EST to Noon The Open Gallery at 329 Main Street Vincennes Indiana 47591 Sponsored by the Wabash Valley Progressives

Wabash Valley Progressives support conservation and the environment. We support efforts to increase the use of native plants and the removal of invasive species as well as recycling and appreciation of our natural areas.

On Saturday, April 23, 2022, over 25 volunteers picked up litter and recyclables in downtown Vincennes. Thanks to The Open Gallery for hosting and to everyone who contributed!

Local naturalist, Terri King, led a hike in honor of Earth Day in 2019 at Ouabache Trails Park. In prior years, Wabash Valley Progressives held March for Science rallies. We look forward to future Earth Day events!

We Stand With Ukraine

Wabash Valley Progressives supports Ukraine in their fight to save their county and freedom. On Saturday, March 5, a diverse group of more than 60 people from across the Wabash Valley marched in a show of solidarity.

 

WVP Annual Meeting

Each year, Wabash Valley Progressives invites everyone to come together to learn more about the community and our work. On April 11, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Harmony Society (111 N 2nd St, Vincennes), join us to hear from Janice Barniak, the new Director of Vincennes / Knox County Tourism & Visitors Bureau. Sarah Wolfe will update us on the 2024 Eclipse. Everyone is welcome to attend. Light refreshments served with a cash bar available.

Building Bridges

Wabash Valley Progressives advocates for social equity and works to create a more diverse and inclusive community. To this end, we created Building Bridges, a series of community discussions on race. Our first session featured Jim Sims, Monroe County NAACP President at the Knox County Public Library. Meghan Quinn and Tyson Sims, instructors in higher education, led the second discussion. We plan to continue to engage community members in discussions on race and equity to make this a better place to live for everyone.

March for Science

The March for Science champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. Our very first public event in 2017, Wabash Valley Progressives led a march from the Vincennes Riverfront Pavilion. At our 2018 event, we planted an oak tree on the Vincennes Riverwalk. March for Science featured educational and fun activities for kids, and informative speakers on issues including climate change.
